COMMITMENT...
Commitment. A concept that scares many people, but something that is critical for life. The Oxford Dictionary says "the state or quality of being dedicated to a cause, activity, etc. An engagement or obligation that restricts freedom of action." Hummmm, (I'm thinking...) I am not sure I agree that commitment is restricting. In fact, when it comes to our faith, when we truly commit our lives to Christ and follow his Lordship, we experience FREEDOM, incredible freedom. We are freed from the bondage of our sin, which is extremely restricting. We are freed from fearing death or what comes after. And we are free to experience LIFE, real life, and to the fullest. Jesus reminds us (John 10:10 ESV) "A thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I (Jesus) came that they (us) may have life and have it abundantly." But so many do not understand or even choose to ignore this truth. Charles Swindol says "More than once Jesus deliberately addressed certain issues that quickly diminished the number of onlookers. It was commitment that thinned the ranks." This is sad, but still true, even today.
What it boils down to is who and what are we committed to? This is where our time, our attention, and our energies are focused. And from this focus is where we will find the quality of our life. And commitment to relationships is the most critical and important, with our relationship with Christ being the highest priority. I encourage you to look at who and what you are truly committed to. Does it need adjusting, realigned, maybe even renewed? If so, do it.
Speaking of commitment, I want to wish my Mom and Dad a very Happy Anniversary. This past week they celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. And congratulations to my Sister, Karen, and her husband, Kerry, who celebrated 39 years of marriage. These are quite the accomplishments.
I am excited for Sunday. We will look at 1 John 1. I hope you will be able, and committed, to join us. No matter what, Remember...
YOU ARE LOVED!
