The Simple Things...

Have you ever just stopped and thanked God for the simple things in life?  The little non-eventful, easily overlooked, simple blessings that each day has.  The moments that bring a smile to your face and even a calmness to your spirit.

I am writing this as I sit in my parents house in Sevierville.  It is early in the morning.  My coffee is fresh and hot.  And as I look out the window, I see the day waking up behind the peak of Mount LeConte.  Simple.  Breathtaking.  And such a beautiful way to start a cold morning in the Smokies.  This has been a busy week for me personally.  I flew to Charlottesville, VA, another beautiful area, to help my parents head to Sevierville to reside for several months.  It has been challenging, at times stressful, and even exhausting.   But I thank God that I am able to assist my 90 and 86 year old parents.  We have made this transition a fun adventure, as much as we can.

I am realizing by enjoying the simple things, it can change your attitude and perspective - and for the better.  Instead of having to constantly set up much needed walkers.  We are having a "parade".  My folks know that I am goofy and they laugh along with me.  Stopping at our favorite "watering hole", Cracker Barrel, we get a table near the beautiful fire.  We enjoy the snap, crackle, and popping as well as the dancing flames as we enjoy our 3 pm fish fry dinner.  And thanks to Spotify, we listen to beautiful, relaxing Christmas Jazz, as we navigate the semi-truck dominated Interstates 81 and 40.   And the list goes on and on ... with many more to come.

During this season of focusing on "thanks" lets not forget the "giving" things that are simple gifts from God.  And may these help us to experience the purest joy of real "thanksgiving".

Proverbs 23:22, 25 (NLT)

Listen to your father, who gave you life,
    and don’t despise your mother when she is old.

So give your father and mother joy!
    May she who gave you birth be happy.

Proverbs 17:6 (NLT)

Grandchildren are the crowning glory of the aged;
    parents are the pride of their children.

Last Sunday I shared that our wonderful Church Family has been ministering in Fernvale for 175 years.  What a history.  A beautiful legacy.  And a wonderful foundation to continue to grow and serve from.  For the next year we are going to Celebrate this milestone.  It is exciting and such a blessing to be a part of this incredible FCC Family!

As I close, there is a little stirring in the house.  Sleepy parents are beginning to wake.  Time to experience and celebrate more Simple Things!   I look forward to seeing you and worshipping with you tomorrow.

Always Remember,

You ARE Loved!
