GIVE THANKS FOR THE LORD IS GOOD!
The anonymous Jewish author of Chronicles, known as "the chronicler", is an incredible, accurate historian. 1 Chronicles focuses on the reign of King David. His "words of the day", the literal Hebrew meaning of this book, gives much insight to the journey of life with Israel. Midway in 1 Chronicles, in chapter 16, (there are 29 chapters), King David has conquered the Philistines and returned the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem. He appoints Ashap, a prominent Levite singer, and his associate to give praise to the Lord. This chapter is a beautiful song of recognizing, acknowledging, and worshipping God, the Creator, and Protector. "Listen" to verses 23-27. Just imagine beautiful, pure voices being lifted up in praise.
Sing to the Lord, all the earth;
proclaim his salvation day after day.
Declare his glory among the nations,
his marvelous deeds among all peoples.
For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise;
he is to be feared above all gods.
For all the gods of the nations are idols,
but the Lord made the heavens.
Splendor and majesty are before him;
strength and joy are in his dwelling place.
Just earlier there had been confusion and even war. But David, and the Children of Israel, were faithful in following the direction of God the Father. Let this remind us that no matter what the circumstances, and how bleak they may seem, ultimately God is still in control. May we follow David's example and be faithful to our walk. And though we do not have "the Ark" that housed the 10 Commandments, we have something and someone much better. We have Immanuel, God with us, our Savor, our Lord, and God's Son - Jesus Christ. For this we should be ever so grateful and thankful. It is through Him we have strength, direction, hope, and love. We CAN do all things through the strength He gives us.
"Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; for His steadfast love endures forever!" 1 Chronicles 16:34
