A Season of THANKS...

Recently I walked into a local craft store.  In the front were fall items on clearance.  The shelves in the store are stocked with Christmas and Christmas music was playing over the speakers.  And it was November 1.  Do you ever think that sometimes we rush things.  In fact, I have been guilty of being excited, rushing things, and then when it finally arrives, it's almost anti-climatic.  Don't get me wrong.  I LOVE CHRISTMAS!  In fact, I believe we should begin each day singing "Joy to the World".  However, sometimes we, or at least me, get so busy that we forget to pause and give thanks.  Thanksgiving is a unique holiday in the United States.  It is a time where many traditionally gather with family and friends reflecting on the past, dreaming towards the future, and celebrating living in the moment.

I challenge you to join me as we enter into this "Season of Thanks" to be more intentional in being thankful.   Each day, take a moment and thank God for someone or someone special to you.  In fact, I encourage you to make a list of 30 "thankfuls" and focus on one a little more than usual each day in November.   Yesterday, November 1, I focused on being thankful for my family.  I am a blessed husband and dad!  Today, I am thankful for YOU!  It is a privilege to be your Pastor, but even better to be your friend.  Thank you for being YOU!

David reminds us in Psalm 118:1:  "Give thanks to Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever."  So in this special season, let's slow down, at least for a moment and be thankful, with a grateful heart, for the many blessings that God has given and lovingly continues to give.

You definitely do not want to miss this Sunday's very special service.  Matt Blount will be leading our time of Worship and reporting on his incredible experience on his recent trip to Uganda.  We as a family are supportive of this special ministry that is so positively touching the lives of so many, especially orphaned children.

Also, this week you have the opportunity to exercise your right, your privilege, and your responsibility and VOTE.  I hope you will take a couple of moments and prayerfully cast your vote.  What a wonderful Nation we live in where we have these privileges.   I also want to remind you that God is a God of love for ALL people - period.  And we are all made in HIS image.  My prayer for our Country is that we become less divided, more respectful, learn to communicate without going to battle, and most of all love one another through our words and our actions.  That is what God expects and even commands us to do.  (Don't worry about the judging.  Jesus even tells us not to do it.  And He didn't.  Instead, God is in control and will take care of all that.  Instead, lead and love by example - unconditionally - just like Jesus does.)

Jesus tells us (John 13:34-35 NIV):  "A new command I give to you:  Love one another.   As I have loved you, so you must love one another.  By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."

November is going to be an exciting time at FCC.  Please join us as we gratefully celebrate a Season of Thanks!

Remember to set your clocks back an hour tonight.  Enjoy your extra hour of sleep.  And then join us Sunday morning.  I look forward to seeing you.  And...

Always Remember,

You ARE Loved!
